Hyeri calls out Delta Air Lines for seat downgrade without refund
Girl’s Day’s Hyeri says Delta Air Lines downgraded her first-class seat to economy on a domestic U.S. flight without issuing a refund, sharing the experience on her Instagram story on Thursday.
Hyeri wrote that she had booked the first-class ticket about a month earlier, only to be told her seat had been downgraded to economy with no refund. Delta’s only offered options, she said, were to “fly economy at the price of a first class ticket or to walk away and wait for the next flight.” She called it “the most absurd experience” she had faced recently.
A ticket snapshot she posted identified Delta as the carrier, and the flight was confirmed to be a domestic route within the United States.
Delta told the Korea JoongAng Daily in a text message on Friday that the involuntary downgrade followed “an unplanned substitution to a smaller aircraft to operate this flight.” The airline said its agents gave customers the choice to wait for a later flight with first-class seating or take economy with a fare-difference refund “to be processed soon after travel.” Delta added that the passengers moved to economy were selected “randomly,” but gave no clear answer on how many were downgraded or how they were chosen.
