Before they realized, they are in their 4th year in promoting. Since their debut they have promoted without much rest. They have competed amongst numerous idol groups. They wanted to show their group’s color and wanted to be recognized by the public. It has been a tough ride but in 2013 they took off their previous image and changed their appearances. For all the love and support they have found, Girl’s Day doesn’t want to let go.
Realizing her embedded sexy beauty Sojin, with a lovable eye-smile on the top tier list for variety casts Minah, having a mature and whimsy image at the same time Yura, and openly dating the past H.O.T member Tony the youngest of the group Hyeri are the members of Girl’s Day. With their first album ‘Expectation’ they rose on the music charts and even became contenders for a 1st place on music programs. Having this kind of attention was overwhelming, but they were happy. Also they have fears this situation will disappear like a dream.
◆ From their 1st place nomination to their free hug pledge.
(Sojin) – I was happy about the music chart performance. You can get reactions about your song the fastest that way. The first wave of reactions were very important for this concept. We were worried how the public would take this change in concept. I think we’re doing well now though. (laugh) Because we’re thankful to the fans, even if we didn’t get a 1st place, we were satisfied even being nominated so we fulfilled our free hug pledge.
(Minah) – When we see the audience on the stage, guys or girls they all follow along with our dances. We’re so thankful. Looking at that we can enjoy the stage even more. Truthfully our fans would’ve liked a cute image more, but fortunately they don’t dislike it so we’re satisfied.
(Yura) – Half worried and half expectations we prepared our best. We aimed for a sexy concept, and it feels like the fans were waiting for this moment. Maybe we should’ve prepared this kind of concept earlier. (laugh)
(Hyeri) – Our company and members both agreed that we needed to have a mature concept. Especially with me becoming an adult, the timing for our 1st album concept was perfect. Change is hard, but I’m happy with new changes.
◆ Girl’s Day are experts on cuteness? Releasing their inner sexiness.
(Sojin) – I realized it during this promotion. Our members show their cute gestures and eye smiles etc. However that was covering up our mature feminine appearance. (laugh) I think we let that out this time. As our promotion goes on we’re showing more and more.
(Minah) – People around us were excited for this as well. There were so many idol groups having their comebacks in the same time period. 2AM’s Jokwon-oppa also picked us as ‘singers that I’m looking out for the most’. I was very happy from his compliment.
(Yura) – After our first stage our suspender dance was a hit. Watching our name go up in the live search engines was thrilling. With so many schedules recently we’re not getting much sleep, but we know that we can do even more.
(Hyeri) – When I first debuted it felt like I was remotely separated from the world. We were worried about our promotions. Now we have fans, and with the cheer and support of the people around us we’re fighting on. I feel especially happy when our male senior artists compliment us as ‘sexy’ and ‘became more pretty’. (laugh)
◆ Yearning for love in the past, recently fallen in love.
(Sojin) – With our title song ‘Expectation’ this is the most love we’ve received since our debut. There is some pressure for our follow up song. A hint can be, the concept is a ‘proud woman’. We want to show bright energy. When the season changes from Spring to Summer, our plans will work out.
(Yura) – We’re ready for anything. We’ll do our best with what is given to us. We’re thankful for anyone that calls us without holding any stereotypes. Whether we have a cute or sexy image, we will focus on what’s needed.
(Minah) – Because it’s our first album we’re going to focus more on group promotions. For individual promotions we can start after that. Of course we’ll do both. It feels like we’re starting anew with this album. We’re motivated like we’re rookies. (laugh)
(Hyeri) – We want to get on lots of variety programs too. We talked amongst each other being part of shows like ‘Romantic’ and ‘We Got Married’. Sojin-unni showed her interest for ‘*Jjak’ as well. (laugh)
[*T/N- ’Jjak is an SBS dating variety program where people don’t release their names, but only their age and occupation where they choose someone to be with at the end of 3-4 days(?). Obviously for a high profile celebrity it would be a special focused on only celebrities or just male/female celebrities with regular people.]
◆ Their first openly dating member is the youngest Hyeri.
(Sojin) – Since our debut I haven’t had a proper relationship. It is about time to start focusing on it. As the oldest my responsibility is heavy. (laugh) I’m going to find motivation around me and search.
(Yura) – I never divided guys and girls and became friends with everyone. There are lots of people around me that want to introduce people to me. Still there are some complications. It’s true that the members want to appear on a couple selection variety program. (laugh)
(Minah) – We’ve mentioned the dating ban on broadcast before. There was nothing set in stone by our company. We mentioned it for fun since it was a variety program situation. They only said that as a warning to keep us safe. However we’re at the age to be involved in relationships. I’ll start. (laugh)
(Hyeri) – Since I was young I was very friendly toward my boyfriend. At first I don’t know if they’re interested. You have to tell me directly. But as we stay on friendly terms, it turns into a relationship. We’ve received lots of attention from our ‘Expectation’ promotions. If you receive love, I’ll probably hear ‘You’ve become prettier’ more. I want to continue hearing that. (laugh)
